Yoakum Rotarian and past RYLA Director, Carroll Sharp, introduced the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) recipients and 2016 campers from Yoakum High School.  Kayla Stock and Bryan Hurtado presented the day's program outlining highlights of the week-long camp and the impact it had on them.  RYLA in the Rough is a coed, residential  leadership camp for high school students.  Each year clubs from Central Texas District 5870 send approximately 100 campers to experience a fun-filled week learning about leadership, tolerance, team building and personal growth while keeping a rigorous schedule of problem solving, physical exercise and fellowship.

In addition to the one hundred campers, approximately forty counselors, and senior staffers (Rotarians) operate the camp held each year during the first week in July at McKinney Roughs Nature Park near Bastrop, Texas.  Applications to the 2017 camp will be available in November.  YHS students entering their Sophomore or Junior year this fall are eligible to apply.  All camp costs are paid by the Rotary Club of Yoakum.  Please contact Carroll Sharp @ (361)550-6457 For additional information.

The membership also welcomed luncheon guest, Blake Carter, grandson of Rotarian Carroll Carter.  President Leahy announced that there will be no noon meeting on Thursday, August 18, as the club social will be held that evening at lakeside.
